Industry Analyst, Cleantech
Navigant Research is seeking industry analysts to author reports on a contractual project basis, with the potential to transition to a full-time position in the future. The research process includes a series of executive interviews with industry participants, synthesis of secondary research information, and creation of quantitative models and forecasts for the sector being covered. Our clients include technology and energy companies, government agencies, industry associations, and the investor community.
Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Renewable energy (solar, wind, etc.)
- Bioenergy (biofuels, biogas, biomass power, etc.)
- Smart grid technologies (AMI/smart meters for electric/gas/water, microgrids, smart energy for homes and buildings, smart grid IT systems, utility communications networks, utility and smart grid data analytics, V2G, etc.)
- Electricity transmission systems (FACTS, HVDC, transmission power electronics, synchrophasors, etc.)
- Distribution automation (solid state transformers, outage management systems, conservation voltage reduction, advanced protective relays, Volt/VAR control, etc.)
- Advanced batteries and energy storage (EV batteries, lithium ion batteries, battery management systems, ultracapacitors, UPS, etc.)
- Combined heat and power (CHP or cogeneration) for residential, commercial, and industrial markets
- Energy management (home area networks, home energy management, smart thermostats, energy management systems for commercial and industrial markets, data center energy management, etc.)
- Building efficiency (green building, building automation and control systems, building energy management systems, ESCOs, utility energy efficiency programs, etc.)
- Energy efficient lighting (LED lighting, high-bay commercial lighting, advanced architectural lighting, lighting controls, DC powered commercial lighting, outdoor lighting systems, residential energy efficient lighting, LED lighting for vertical markets, etc.
- Energy efficiency and energy management for vertical markets (healthcare, hospitality, retail, SMB markets, etc.)
- Industrial energy technologies (industrial control systems, energy management for industrial markets, inverters, sensor networking, energy efficient manufacturing, etc.)
- Clean transportation (hybrid, electric, biofuels, natural gas, hydrogen, clean diesel, etc.)
- Utility policy and regulatory issues
- Emerging energy technologies (energy harvesting, wireless power, distributed nuclear, etc.)
Key competencies:
- At least 5-10 years of relevant work experience
- Exceptional writing skills
- Solid quantitative analysis, ability to create forecasts using assumptions gleaned from primary research
- Strong secondary research / information discovery and aggregation skills
- Good interviewing skills
- Technology market research / industry analysis / financial & equity research experience is strongly preferred

Managing Director, Energy Market Research
Navigant Research is currently seeking an experienced market research executive to lead the group’s global research organization including syndicated research products as well as custom research and consulting activities.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and expand Navigant Research’s market analysis capabilities, processes, and methodologies
- Lead our team of research directors and industry analysts
- Plan the syndicated research agenda, working closing with the research organization, global sales team, and project management team
- Maintain and expand strong client and industry relationships, in close partnership with the sales and client service teams
- Provide training, guidance, and content management to the research organization on best practices in market research and analysis
- Create and manage new internal processes, procedures, and templates for the creation of syndicated market research products appropriate to a range of industries and stages of market maturity
- Recruit industry analysts to fill key positions of topical research coverage
- Organize and effectively communicate thought-provoking and original analytical findings to a client base that includes technology companies, service providers, utility companies, the investor community, industry organizations, and government agencies
Key competencies:
- Strong senior management experience in the market research / industry analyst business including a demonstrated ability to drive strong revenue and margin growth

Market Research Associate, Cleantech
Renewable energy and other clean technologies are changing the way the world works, creating new disruptive business models and reshaping entire industries and societies. However, the future is rife with uncertainty about which technology solutions, regulatory frameworks, and industry players will prevail. This entry-level Market Research Associate position gives you the opportunity to help bring analytical clarity to a chaotic market that is still in its formative stages, while at the same time building valuable business skills.
Navigant Research is a market research and advisory group focused on global clean technology markets. We publish research reports and forecasts on a number of emerging cleantech sectors:
- Renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal, ocean, etc.)
- Clean transportation (electric vehicles, natural gas vehicles, fuel cell vehicles, biofuels)
- Smart energy (fuel cells, advanced batteries, energy storage, distributed generation)
- Smart grid (smart meters, grid automation, microgrids, grid security)

The Market Research Associate will provide background research and data analysis support for our analysts working on research topics such as the ones listed above. Generally, this will include a lot of internet research, searching through company financial filings, government reports, media reports, subscription databases, and other sources to compile information on a given subject. Assignments can be anywhere from 2 hours to 2 weeks in duration, and there’s always something new.
Key competencies for the position include:
- Excellent internet search skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, database skills are a plus
- Strong writing skills
- Familiarity with data analysis
- Interest in emerging technology and energy markets
Orientation for the position includes an introduction to the office environment, other staff members, and Navigant Research’s business model, methodology and processes. Training includes in-depth, day-to-day coaching on best practices for market research data gathering and analysis. Evaluation sessions will be conducted monthly, with more informal two-way feedback discussions on an ongoing basis. The Market Research Associate will have the opportunity to work closely with other highly experienced research analysts within the company.
This is a part time hourly position to start, but has the potential over time to expand into a full-time salaried position including full benefits.
Navigant Research is an entrepreneurial company that is growing quickly, so our culture is fast-paced but casual. This position is based at our headquarters in Boulder, Colorado. Our office is on the Pearl Street Mall, two blocks away from the bus terminal.
