The Approach:

  • Developed and delivered a comprehensive dataset and charts identifying every fuel cell shipment by all manufacturers worldwide
  • The dataset was segmented by multiple dimensions including end use application, underlying technology, and size of the fuel cell
  • Provided manufacturers’ market share along with company locations and locations of their manufacturing facilities for identification of the countries selling and manufacturing the greatest number of systems

The Result:

DOE used the information provided by Navigant Research for an impact assessment of U.S. investment in research and development (R&D) in the fuel cell industry.

Navigant Research conducted a comprehensive analysis of the mid-sized wind power industry in North America (with a primary focus on the United States) for a Japanese consulting and systems integration firm looking to invest in a manufacturer of mid-size wind turbines.

The Approach:

  • Analyzed net metering regulation at the federal and state levels and financial incentives available including: tax credits, rebate programs, feed-in tariffs, low-interest loans, sales tax exemptions, and production incentives.

  • Examined the competitive landscape of mid-sized wind turbine manufacturers including vital statistics on each company.

The Result:

The client decided not to invest in the mid-sized wind turbine market in the U.S. due to the complexity of the market – 50 different states with 50 different sets of regulations.

Navigant Research conducted a worldwide study to identify potential candidate cities for EV car sharing program for a multinational automaker.  The feasibility of the new service opportunity was assessed across three regions:  U.S., Europe, and Asia.

  • Identified and evaluated existing/planned EV introductions
  • Research existing/planned car sharing business

For a large electric power holding company, Navigant Research was asked to create a detailed analysis and database of the small commercial building segment in the United States.  The client sought to better understand the characteristics of the building stock and the installed base of HVAC equipment within this stock.

The Approach:

  • Quantified the small commercial building installed base (focused on buildings with packaged HVAC systems) in the total U.S. and by region
  • Provided profiles of leading vendors of HVAC systems used by small commercial enterprises in each region.
  • Included analysis of total square footage for buildings sized < 500,000 sq. ft. segmented by region and by building use (Office, Retail, Education, Healthcare, etc.)
  • Developed HVAC Supplier Characterization – profiles of leading vendors of packaged RTU HVAC systems installed and used by small commercial enterprises in the targeted regions
  • Established market share by HVAC RTU size (tonnage) and by OEM vendors

The Result:

Navigant Research’s database was used by the client to quantify their addressable market for a new service offering. The analysis was utilized to help with the determination of potential profitability.
