By 2025, residential demand response spending is expected to $624 million globally, with the market focused in North America
A new Leaderboard Report from Navigant Research examines the strategy and execution of 15 residential demand response vendors, with Itron scoring the highest of the companies assessed.
While the residential demand response industry is still maturing relative to the energy industry in general, several forces are encouraging its development, including technology enhancements and customer engagement strategies. Competition is growing as companies previously focused on other aspects of the smart grid arena move into the demand response space, and startups with new hardware and software offerings look to take advantage of the plethora of available energy data and communication options for devices and customer messaging. Established vendors, however, are investing heavily to develop their capabilities and strategy. Click to tweet: According to a new Leaderboard report from @NavigantRSRCH, in terms of strategy and execution, Itron is the leading residential demand response vendor.
“Itron has the strongest foothold within the residential demand response market through its acquisition of Comverge, offering the most comprehensive turnkey service for utilities,” says Brett Feldman, principal research. “Several other vendors in this space offer a variety of hardware and software solutions, but few companies attempt to serve all sides, thereby offering a complete solution.”
The market opportunity for vendors in this space is expected to continue to increase. According to the report, by 2025, a total of $624 million in residential demand response spending is expected globally. Throughout this period, the largest amount of RDR spending is expected to be in North America, primarily in the United States.
